About 3 years ago, at the urging of my wife, I started using minoxidil. There are different levels of Minoxidil. There are two types of Minoxidil 2% and 5%. The prices are a little different. I initially tried Minoxidil 2% for a few months (because I am cheap). I noticed no change. I was still losing hair just as rapidly as before.
After my initial supply ran out, I bought the more heavy duty 5% minoxidil. After a few weeks, I did notice that my hair had stopped falling out at the frequency as before.
I do not have pictures as this has been a few years ago and I did not have a digital camera.
During the past 3 years, I have avoided using the Minoxidil at the level that they advised on the container. They advise using it 2 times a day, morning and night. When I initially was using the Minoxidil I used it both morning and night. But I did not like the dusty look I received on my hair throughout the day. Quite actually it looked bad. Like I had not washed my hair for a few days. I also noticed that when I used it more frequently, my scalp peeled.
Therefore, I started testing using it only 1 time a day. At night before I went to bed. I studied the hair loss and found that it did not start up again at the rate it had initially. The hair still maintained and I was saving money! So, I continued to use it at this rate.
After about a year, I stopped it for a good month due to wondering if it really was helping me or not. After about a month, my hair was quite noticeably falling out at a heavy rate. I noticed that the whole in the back of the head was expanding precipitously.
I quickly started using the Minoxidil again and after a few weeks I went back to maintaining my hair again.
In my testing I also tried using different brands of Minoxidil. I used Rogaine (the inventor), and many types of generic be it from Costco, Eckerds to Walgreens. I noticed no difference between any of them.
Minoxidil does work. The recommended daily use of 2 times a day is not important. Minoxidil does nothing for the front crown of your head. It only helps maintain the hair in the back.
